Spin's 40 Best Albums of 2009

SPIN magazine just released their list of Top 40 Best Albums of 2009 right in time for the new year. Topping the list this year at number 1 is Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavilion (I have been meaning to get into Animal Collective for years now so here is my final push).

Some other albums that made the list was Wilco's Wilco(the Album) at 39, folk siblings The Avett Brothers' I and Love and You as well as The Flaming Lips' Embryonic at 28. Personal favorites Tegan and Sara charted the list at 22 with Sainthood which just came out this past fall.

Lily Allen made an appearance at 19 with It's Not Me, It's You and rapper Drake's So Far Gone hit number 9! (Besides the honest fact that he's undoubtedly talented, many years of watching paraplegic Jimmy on Degrassi has turned me into a major DRAKE fan)

Third place goes to Pheonix's Wolfgang Amadeus Pheonix--one of my favorite albums of the year. The Grammy nominated fifth album from these Frenchman is a perfect blend of various beats, grooves and lyrics making it energetically wonderful.

Numero dos went to the always awesome Yeah Yeah Yeahs' It's Blitz!. Kudos to YYY and Karen O for always generating an edgy punk/indie rock sound pleasing to the ears.
